Harmonic Drive structure involves fully cutting out gear teeth with the same module on both the rigid wheel and the flexspline. The most common gears include those with greater variability. During transmission, they remain concentric, the gaps between them are larger, and friction is minimized. The structure of the Harmonic Drive is very simple, with a small size and lightweight


Because the transmission of the Harmonic Drive system mainly consists of three parts: the wave generator, the flexspline, and the rigid wheel. Compared to ordinary transmission reducers, it performs better and is more efficient, with fewer parts. As a result, the corresponding size and weight are reduced by about one-third, with higher integration. The transmission ratio range is larger, currently including single-stage, double-stage, and flexwave reducers with different transmission ratios. Additionally, there are more gears involved, mainly controlled to about 30% during operation. Compared to ordinary gears, the number of gears increases by about 2% to 7%. The higher number of gears results in higher precision and greater load capacity, making it possible to achieve high transmission ratios with small volumes.


The harmonic drive has a large load capacity


Because of the greater number of gears, it has a stronger load capacity. With the same material and transmission ratio, it can withstand much more than other transmissions, with corresponding transmission ranges controlled at around several kilowatts. The motion precision is higher, about four times that of other types. Moreover, it operates more smoothly without any impact and with lower noise. Due to its numerous advantages, the Harmonic Drive applications are very extensive.
